In early 1990, Dean came home with the most adorable Chinese Shar-Pei puppy. "Mookie" became an adored member of the family, charming in family crowds, social with all the other dogs -- she commandeered our hearts.
During the first months of Mookie owning us, we read every book and article we could get our hands on. We felt she was a very fine example of the breed and planned our first litter. Mookie was bred to CSPCA Ch. Chaparral's I Be Movin "Maverick", a lovely red-fawn horsecoat who moved like the wind. It was by sheer luck that we found such a wonderful stud in Maverick and mentor in Janet Genius of Chaparral Kennel. We kept two puppies from this litter. Whelped December 1992;

Bonzai is a multiple breed winning and group placing Chinese Shar-Pei, as well as a competitive veteran in the show ring today. He has sired only three litters, but has three AKC championships to his name. Needless to say, with the success and enjoyment of Bonzai in the show ring, Jan became hooked on the sport of showing purebred dogs and raising fine quality Chinese Shar-Pei puppies. Over a decade of breeding, we have bred only five litters, but have produced four champions with more to come, as there are a number of these young animals currently in the ring.
Quality of breeding is our main focus. Health and temperament, coupled with the finest specimen meeting the details described in the breed standard (www.cspca.com/breedinfo.htm) are heavily researched before each litter.
Whether a puppy is destined for the show ring, or resigned to simply find a cozy place on the sofa , our goal is to produce Chinese Shar-Pei who will be around for a long life of memorable family companionship.
